AltText.ai generates accessibility alt text for images through a REST API at alttext.ai/api/v1, authenticated with an X-API-Key header. You POST to /api/v1/images with an image object that carries either a public url or raw base64 data, and you can pass keywords to steer wording, a lang code to get the description in another language, and an ecommerce flag for product photography. Each request takes an asset_id you choose, which is how you tie the generated text back to your own media records rather than to an AltText.ai identifier. Very large images and slow origin URLs are the common failure mode, since the service must fetch the file itself before it can describe it. Account credit state is readable from the API, so you can stop a bulk backfill before it exhausts a customer's balance. fastn stores each customer's key, refreshes the connection and limits which agents may spend their credits.
